VARD
Engineered six Wabtec MDC-based generator sets for VARD’s 164 m RV11000 research vessel for Inkfish, integrating engines, generators, controls, vibration isolation, acoustic treatment and interfaces. The vessel was under construction when the project was announced on 17 August 2026.
A retrofit for a European shipowner reduced engine-room fan energy use by 49%, seawater cooling-pump use by 54% and freshwater-chiller use by 40%. These figures concern one vessel in the 24 August 2026 account; its measurement period is not disclosed.
DNV type approval: HMC3 80–355
DNV TAE000041E revision 2, issued 2025-12-04, valid until 2030-08-03. Holder Svend Hoyer A/S, Hadsten. HMC3 80–355 motors: 220–690 V,0.75–378 kW,50/60 Hz, IP55/56/65/66 per selected configuration. Essential/important-function motors above 300 kW require separate DNV product certification. Manufacturing places identified only by DNV IDs 10694675 and 10330395; not proof of Hadsten production.
ATEX HMCX 80–355 type examination
CNEX 19ATEX0028X, issue 8 dated 24 April 2026. Holder Svend Hoyer A/S, Over Hadstenvej 42; additional manufacture explicitly in Ningbo, China. HMCX 80–355 explosion-proof three-phase motors. Model-dependent gas/dust markings and 0.37–375 kW schedule; this is design examination, not complete manufacture/supply conformity. Specific X conditions apply to ambient temperature, converter duty, winding protection and flameproof-joint repairs.
IECEx HMCX 80–355 certification
IECEx CNEX 19.0019X, issue 8 dated 24 April 2026, with the document status Current. Svend Hoyer A/S holder; Ningbo manufacturing site. HMCX 80–355 with model-dependent Ex db/db eb gas and tb/tc dust protection. X conditions include ambient/duty limits, PTC protection for converter or non-S1 operation, switching frequency at least 2000 Hz and voltage rise limit 1500 V/µs. Flameproof-joint repairs require manufacturer specifications.
